Headteachers Welcome

I am proud to welcome you to St John Baptist Church in Wales High School. Our school is a mixed comprehensive school of just under 1000 pupils including nearly 200 in our sixth form. We aim to enrich pupils lives through faith, opportunities and high quality education, within our caring, supportive Christian environment. We strive to follow our school values of:

• faith and belief

• care and compassion

• respect and tolerance

• responsibility and trust

• aspiration and success

In 2023, pupils achieved pleasing A level and GCSE results enabling them to access the next stage of their learning pathway.

Our Christian ethos is at the heart of our school life, and acts of worship are inspirational. Local clergy are regular visitors at the school and preside at its worship.

During our most recent Estyn inspection in 2020 we were delighted that we were awarded the highest judgement of excellent for ‘wellbeing and attitudes to learning’ and ‘care, support and guidance’. The inspectors described our school as an ‘extremely happy, inclusive and enthusiastic learning community with exceptionally high standards of behaviour’.

We are very proud of our pupils who are polite, respectful and courteous to each other, their teachers and to any visitors. Pupils enjoy their learning and have very positive attitudes. Staff are dedicated and committed and know pupils very well, fostering purposeful working relationships with them.

Pupil performance is very strong, with pupils regularly exceeding their targets.

Attendance rates are high. There are effective arrangements in place to support all learners and the schools working relationship with parents makes a notable contribution to the wellbeing of pupils.

The school occupies modern, and well equipped premises on an extensive and attractive site, which includes large playing fields.

Please contact us if you would like to find out more about St John’s. We look forward to hearing from you.
