Debating and Public Speaking Success

Congratulations to the St John's debate team and spublic speaking teams who have successfully progressed within the ESU Debating and Public Speaking Competitions. Maya and Lilybelle and Luke performed exceptionally well in the public speaking competition, with Luke winning the, 'best speaker' and Maya named, 'best questioner'. Our debating team of Clementine, Sophie and Hannah have secured their place in the next round in Cardiff having performed so well in the competition heat last evening (20.11.24).

St John's Does "Children In Need"

Pupils and staff at St John's have shown their support for Children In Need, with a variety of events that have raised a staggering £3,406. The Charity Committee coordinated a pupils and staff walk/run at Aberdare Park on Thursday 14th November 2024. The completed walk/run spanned approximately eight-miles. Pupils/staff were greeted by members of the public, who donated generously towards the worthy cause. On Friday 15th November 2024, the whole-school community took part in a non-uniform day and, for sixth form students and staff, this was an invitation for 'fancy-dress'. Whilst many of the sixth formers were reluctant to have their pictures taken, the staff were very keen! Children in Need plays a vital role in supporting disadvantaged children and young people across the country, ensuring they have access to essential resources and opportunities for a brighter future. The funds raised today will make a significant contribution to help others in need, to support projects within communities that support with health, education and wellbeing. Thank you to the St John's community for the generosity, both for the kind donations and for the spirit in participating with the activities throughout the past two-days.

Sixth Form Open Evening (Tuesday 19th November 2024)

On Tuesday 19th November 2024, we look forward to welcoming Year 11 pupils and families to our Sixth Form Open Evening. SJB Sixth Form is part of the Cynon Valley Consortium (including Aberdare Community School and Mountain Ash Comprehensive) that enables sixth form students at St John's to study a broad range of qualifications. We welcome existing pupils and those from surrounding schools to come and hear about our unique sixth form experience. There will be an opportunity to meet existing SJB Sixth Form students, meet classroom teachers and hear what we will offer as part of your expectations, should you join us.   Presentations will be held in the main hall at 4.15pm and 5.15pm.
