How to Stay Fit and Healthy

There are clear links between a person’s physical and mental health. So, when one is functioning well, there is a high chance the other will too. Regular forms of exercise is one of the best ways to improve your mental health.

Maintaining health and fitness does not require daily training at the gym or being able to run long distances. It means finding ways to be as active as possible in order to keep your mind and body healthy.

Here are some of the organisations who may be able to help

  • Sport Wales is funded by the National Lottery and is committed to supporting sport and physical activity for everyone. The resources and links available are designed to those already actively engaged in sport to those looking to try something for the first time. This may range from a free swim at a local leisure centre or supporting local teams.

  • Change4Life is a government funded scheme, designed to support families so that children and young people may remain healthy by becoming more active. They offer advice and suggestions for indoor activities and games at home, particularly when opportunities to explore outdoor activities are limited.
  • Childline – Staying Healthy have put together some advice to support children and young people with eating the right food and keeping fit. This is to help maintain a strong body to help with managing the pressures of teenage life, and also fight illness. They also offer tips and techniques, ideas and inspiration, which can help you feel more in control. These can be accessed at the individuals own time, and pace.
  • Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity and their mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. They encourage and empower people to get help quickly, because the sooner someone starts treatment, the greater their chance of recovery. There a specific helpline for Beat in Wales.
